Microbial contamination has a significant impact on international and domestic fuel markets, distribution, terminal storage which ultimately impacts the end user; the military, utilities, airlines, railroads, truck fleets, standby diesel generators and the consumer. The effects of microbial contamination include product spoilage, corrosion on fuel-wetted surfaces, filters plugging and engine failures. Microbes are not selective about the type of fuel product they consume and will contaminate all types of petroleum based products, fuels, feedstocks, finished fuels including biodiesel.
Microbes only require droplets of condensation or a one (1) millimeter film of water to initiate the fuel system degradation process.
Contaminated fuel systems require a biocide that is quick, thorough, efficient, and long lasting. Kathon® FP 1.5 is arguably the finest biocide available in the market place today. The same active ingredients found in Kathon® FP 1.5 are also formulated in over 85 products registered with the USEPA. Kathon® FP 1.5 has obtained numerous approvals from leading aircraft engine and airframe manufacturers, is recommended for aircraft fuel systems by IATA , and is approved for use under MIL-S-53021 along with a fuel stability additive LTSA-35A for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense to protect fuel and equipment for intermediate and long periods of time.
To check your system for microbial contamination you can use one of our microbial test kits. These kits are easy to use and require no prior laboratory experience.
